Florida’s graduation rate hits a record 89.7%, but questions linger about the data’s accuracy
Pasco County is leading the charge with an impressive 95.5% graduation rate. Other big districts like Pinellas, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach are also doing well, all surpassing the state average.
Officials are celebrating this achievement, saying it shows Florida students are ready for college and careers. But not everyone is convinced. Some folks are questioning the data.
They point out that the state has allowed students to use credit recovery programs and alternative exams to earn their diplomas. So, it raises some eyebrows about how accurate those numbers really are.
In other news, Governor Ron DeSantis is backing his appointee to the University of West Florida board, despite some backlash over comments about women. This meeting will be the first full board in five years.
Also, Broward County school staff will start wearing badges with emergency panic buttons this August. It’s a safety measure that’s getting a lot of attention.
