Faiz Shakir has officially entered the race for DNC Chair, aiming to reshape the party’s approach and connect with working-class voters.

He shared his decision with POLITICO, and the New York Times was the first to break the news. Shakir’s entry could shake things up a bit, especially since the focus has mostly been on party logistics rather than big ideas.
In a letter to DNC members, he expressed his frustration with the party’s current direction. He feels there’s a lack of vision to fix the Democratic brand, which he believes is in rough shape. Shakir pointed out that while everyone talks about winning back the working class, he senses a lot of the same old thinking.
He believes that if the party doesn’t offer something fresh, it won’t attract the support it needs. However, he’s starting his campaign at a disadvantage. Ben Wikler from Wisconsin and Ken Martin from Minnesota have already gained significant support and endorsements from DNC members.
Shakir won’t be participating in the upcoming forum in Michigan since he just entered the race. There are still a couple more forums lined up in January, so he’ll have more chances to make his case.
In his letter, he also shared some ideas for his campaign, like transforming the DNC into a strong organizing force with its own media outlet to create engaging content.
