A former police officer admitted to tampering with evidence in a death case, facing potential prison time after pleading guilty in court.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation looked into her actions, which took place between August 8 and August 13. Prosecutor Michael Gmoser revealed that Berling messed with Flock camera data related to a woman’s death in June.
She also used the department’s system to gather personal information, which is a big no-no. On Tuesday, she pleaded guilty to one tampering charge, while the others were dropped as part of her plea deal.
Sentencing is set for February 24, and she could face up to three years in prison. For now, she’s out on her own recognizance. Gmoser mentioned that her actions could have hurt the investigation, and he wasn’t willing to lessen the charges.
Berling was put on paid leave and suspended from her duties back in August when the investigation kicked off, and she eventually resigned.
