Orlando: A former Disney employee, Michael Scheuer, has pleaded guilty to hacking restaurant menus. He changed allergen info and even added swastikas to some menus. That’s pretty wild, right?

He could face up to 10 years in prison for these charges. Scheuer was a menu production manager at Disney World and got fired for misconduct before the charges came up.

In a plea deal, he admitted to hacking and aggravated identity theft. The deal also mentions he might get a lighter sentence for owning up to his actions. He’s also on the hook to pay Disney back for the trouble he caused.

Scheuer messed with allergen info, making it look like certain foods were safe for people with allergies. This could have been really dangerous for some customers.

He also changed wine regions on menus to places where mass shootings happened. And get this—he altered QR codes on menus to link to a site that promotes a boycott of Israel. Luckily, the fake codes were caught before they went out to customers.

By the end of his hacking spree, he had affected almost every menu in the system. Disney had to revert to older menu versions and fix everything manually.

Scheuer’s lawyer mentioned that he’s ready to take responsibility but also pointed out that he has mental health issues, which got worse after Disney fired him when he returned from paternity leave.

Disney is also dealing with another food allergy issue from 2024, where a man sued them after his wife had a severe allergic reaction at one of their restaurants. It’s been a tough time for the company.
