City Comptroller Brad Lander receives nearly $3 million in matching funds, boosting his campaign against Mayor Eric Adams

Last month, Lander hit a snag with some paperwork that kept him from getting these funds. But now, he’s back on track. Lander said this response shows New Yorkers want honest leadership.
With this cash boost, Lander’s campaign is looking much stronger. He had raised nearly $1 million by early October but only had about $279,000 left. Now, with the matching funds, he’s expected to have around $1 million to work with.
Lander is seen as a serious contender against Adams, who’s facing a tough reelection battle. Interestingly, Lander has been known for his progressive views but recently proposed a plan to tackle street homelessness, which aligns more with moderate concerns about crime.
Despite being a strong candidate, Lander almost missed out on these funds due to that paperwork issue. The mayoral race is heating up, with other candidates like former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Scott Stringer also in the mix. Stringer just got an extra $68,500 in matching funds too. It’s going to be an interesting race!
