A series of events in Elkhart will honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day with awards, a breakfast, a march, and an art celebration.

Then, on Monday, January 20, the day starts with a breakfast at the Elkhart Public Library. There will be a live choir from local churches, which sounds like a great way to bring everyone together. After breakfast, a march will take place from Civic Plaza to Community Missionary Baptist Church.
City council president Arvis Dawson mentioned that they’ll have a prayer before the march, and the guest speaker will be Dana Freeman, who has a great story to share with the youth. It’s all about inspiring the younger generation and keeping Dr. King’s dream alive.
Later that day, the Tolson Center and Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary will host an event called “Art for a Change.” This free event will explore how art has played a role in social change, especially during the Civil Rights Movement.
They’ll screen a documentary about the Benham West neighborhood, which has a rich history. Plus, there will be performances by the Tolson Choir and Dance Team, showcasing the talent of local youth.
It’s a packed day filled with activities that honor Dr. King’s legacy and encourage community involvement. Everyone is invited to join in and celebrate!
