Chicago: EJ Mosley is a standout player this season. The senior guard at St. Laurence has been on the varsity team for four years and is heading to college next year. His skills give the Vikings a solid edge against local teams.

Coach Roshawn Russell praised the team’s balance and ball-sharing. He emphasized Mosley’s importance, saying he does more than just pass. Mosley scored 17 points in the Vikings’ 69-58 win over De La Salle, along with five assists and four rebounds.

“I just do whatever my team needs me to do,” Mosley said. He’s flexible and knows when to shoot. After transferring to Romeoville last season, he returned to St. Laurence this year, which helped the team gel quickly.

Senior Zerrick Johnson added 16 points, while Jacob Rice contributed 11. The Vikings shot well from three-point range, hitting 10 out of 25 attempts. “We want to play fast,” Mosley explained, noting their smaller size.

St. Laurence led 41-31 at halftime, but De La Salle fought back, narrowing the gap to 46-44. However, the Vikings ended the third quarter with an 8-0 run to regain control.

This game featured a shot clock, which is usually used in tournaments. Coach Russell mentioned that schools can agree to use it in regular games if they choose.

De La Salle’s Morgan Taylor led his team with 21 points, while Remi Edwards had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Meteors are a young team, lacking seniors in the starting lineup.

St. Laurence has been consistently ranked and impressed with an overtime win against Homewood-Flossmoor. They faced tough competition, including losses to strong teams like St. Louis Vashon and Quincy.

“We are having a really good season,” Russell said, highlighting the leadership from seniors and the contributions from younger players.
