Edmonton: Ontario Premier Doug Ford is urging Canadians to push back against the tariff threat from President-elect Donald Trump. He believes this is a chance for Canadians to show pride in their products.

During a meeting with provincial leaders and the prime minister, Ford encouraged everyone to buy items labeled ‘Made in Canada.’ David Johnston, who owns Playmore Tables and Games in south Edmonton, agrees and says, “It’s about time.”

Johnston pointed out that while many people claim they want to support local businesses, they often end up ordering from elsewhere. He stressed the need for consumers to research where their products come from.

His business specializes in gameroom items, including locally made pool tables, which they’ve crafted for over 20 years. Johnston explained that buying local supports the economy, from materials to finishing touches.

However, he’s concerned that some parts, like the textile for pool tables, come from the U.S., which could raise prices. “Goods like what we sell are likely to go up,” he warned.

Johnston remains hopeful that discussions about tariffs will happen, but he believes buying Canadian-made products is more important than ever. “Our products offer better value for the money,” he added confidently.
