Accrington: Several schools in East Lancs are gearing up for a £14 million refit. This project is being organized by County Hall, and it’s a big deal for local education.

Education leaders in Lancashire are optimistic about getting this funding from the Department for Education for their schools condition-led capital program next year.

More than 15 schools are on the list for renovations. For instance, Fairfield Nursery in Accrington and Alder Grange High in Rawtenstall will get new roofs.

They’re also planning to remove asbestos from Ribblesdale Nursery in Clitheroe and Moor End Primary in Oswaldtwistle. Safety first, right?

Coates Lane Primary in Barnoldswick will see a new heating system, while Heasandford Primary in Burnley will get some wet rot repairs. Park Primary in Colne is also in line for ceiling fixes.

Burnley Ightenhill Primary will have its classroom floor replaced, and Rosegrove Infants will get fire safety upgrades. Plus, Stoneyholme Primary will have new windows.

Longridge Hillside Special School is set for electrical switchgear replacement, and Walton Lane Primary in Nelson will also get a new heating system. Walverden Primary will have its windows replaced too.

Water Primary and Waterfoot Primary in Rossendale will undergo external wall repairs and cladding work, respectively.

Noel O’Neill, the county’s finance and commerce director, mentioned that all these projects will be managed by the council’s design group.

He added that the timing of the work will depend on various factors, especially since schools will be occupied during the renovations. Some work might only happen during school holidays.

For more complex projects, they’ll need advanced designs and longer lead times. The design costs will come from last year’s unspent budget, which means there’s no financial risk if the funding changes.
