Bradford: So, here’s the scoop! A bunch of households are about to get a £25 payment from the DWP to help with heating costs. This is happening because of the chilly weather we’ve been having lately.

They’ve just announced that 51 more postcode areas are eligible for these Cold Weather Payments. This includes places like Bradford, Halifax, and Huddersfield, plus some spots in East Lancashire like Burnley.

If you’re in England or Wales and get certain benefits like Pension Credit or Universal Credit, you might be in line for this payment. It’s estimated that around 3.9 million people could qualify.

These payments kick in when the temperature drops to 0°C or below for a week straight. The scheme runs every winter from November to March, so it’s a good time to check if you’re eligible.

Recently, a cold snap started on January 4, which triggered these payments. So far this winter, over 100,000 households have been eligible, and the first payments started back in November.

Last winter, there were a whopping 364,000 payments made across England and Wales, costing about £9.1 million. Some areas even saw multiple payments due to repeated cold spells.

The Met Office is saying that the cold weather isn’t going anywhere just yet, but milder air is expected to move in soon. They’ve issued fresh warnings for ice and snow, so stay warm out there!

In fact, the coldest temperature recorded recently was minus 11.2°C in Cumbria, and it could drop even lower tonight. So, if you’re eligible, keep an eye out for that payment!
