Dunkin’ stores in some states face a temporary doughnut shortage due to supply chain problems

Last Thursday and Friday, folks in Omaha, Lincoln, and Grand Island found empty cases where doughnuts usually sit. Signs at the stores said it was all due to a “manufacturing error.” Some places did have Munchkins, but that’s not quite the same, right?
Tyler Raikar, who works as a phlebotomist, swung by a Dunkin’ in west Omaha for her usual coffee and a chocolate cake doughnut. She was shocked to find no doughnuts available. “That’s tragic!” she said, though she was glad to grab her coffee.
In Albuquerque, New Mexico, it was the same story. Employees mentioned supply chain issues and missing deliveries. They’re hoping to get things back to normal by next week.
A manager at one Omaha location said she couldn’t share much info, but confirmed it’s a national issue. Interestingly, other areas like St. Joseph, Missouri, and Boston didn’t seem to have the same problem.
Dunkin’ is a huge name in the coffee and doughnut game, with over 13,200 locations. They were bought by Inspire Brands in 2020 for a whopping $11.3 billion. A spokesperson mentioned that a single supplier was causing the doughnut shortage, affecting about 4% of their U.S. stores.
They’re still figuring out the full extent of the issue but have started restocking some locations. Remember, Dunkin’ dropped “Donuts” from its name back in 2018 to focus more on coffee.
Bryce Bares, who owns several franchises in Nebraska, said some stores got subpar products and he wouldn’t serve them. He’s optimistic that doughnuts will be back soon.
