Byram: A driver with assault rifles on his car was shot by police after he jumped out and opened fire. This wild scene unfolded near Mount Allamuchy Scout Reservation.

The guy had rifles on the roof and trunk of his red sedan. When the cops showed up, he jumped out and started shooting at them. They fired back, and it got intense.

He ended up getting shot in the neck and was rushed to the hospital. It’s still unclear if the police hit him or if he shot himself. A few officers were also taken to the hospital for evaluation, just to be safe.

The shooting took place in a scout reservation, which is a bit surprising. The local police union asked everyone to pray for the officers involved. They appreciated the support from the community.

Right now, it’s a mystery who called the cops or what led to this situation. Byram’s Mayor said they can’t share much yet but assured everyone that the officers are safe and there’s no threat to the public.

He urged folks to keep the police department in their thoughts as they wait for more information. The Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office and New Jersey State Police are looking into what happened.
