Derby: The Old Times Not Forgotten Film Festival is set for January 18-19. It’s a tribute to Brett Jones, a talented filmmaker who passed away too soon. His last film, “Old Times Not Forgotten,” inspired the festival’s name.

Brett’s mom, Debbie Richert, started this festival to honor her son and help other filmmakers. She remembers how much film festivals meant to him. They gave him a chance to shine and share his work.

Brett loved film from a young age. He would act in front of a camera before he could even write. His creativity was impressive, and he filled notebooks with stories. His high school and college years were filled with awards, thanks to his talent and hard work.

After graduating from Derby High School in 2019, he went to the University of Arizona. He always returned home to inspire students in the videography class. Sadly, he died in a car accident in January 2024, but his mom continues to honor his legacy by attending festivals on his behalf.

The festival will showcase 36 entries from young filmmakers across Kansas. Tickets are just $2, and there will be giveaways, a guest speaker, and an award ceremony. Debbie hopes the community will come out to support these budding filmmakers and make it a memorable event for everyone involved.
