Denver officials announced a deal to transform Park Hill Golf Course into a public park, enhancing community space.

Denver: After a long wait, the Park Hill Golf Course is finally set to become a public park this summer. City officials just announced a deal to make it happen.
The city will trade a 145-acre parcel near Denver International Airport for the 155-acre golf course. Mayor Mike Johnston shared the news at a press conference, joined by City Councilwoman Shontel Lewis and local leaders.
This new park will be one of the largest in Denver, managed by the Parks and Recreation department. However, the deal still needs the green light from the Adams County commissioners and the Denver City Council.
Johnston expressed excitement, saying Park Hill could be a “crown jewel” for the city. He envisions it as a vibrant space for everyone—runners, families, and nature lovers alike.
The golf course has been a hot topic for years, with debates over whether it should be a park, affordable housing, or remain a golf course. The land was bought by Westside Investment Partners for $24 million in 2019, and it has been closed to the public since 2023 after voters rejected a mixed-use development plan.
As the city prepares to open the park, they want community input on what features to include, like walking trails and sports courts. They’ll also focus on fixing up the area, trimming overgrown spots, and making it accessible.
City officials are also committed to developing affordable housing nearby. If all goes well, this park will be the fourth-largest in Denver, right after City Park, Sloan’s Lake, and Washington Park.
