Democrats are using confirmation hearings to score political points instead of focusing on governance, showcasing partisan theatrics.

Washington, D.C.: The recent confirmation hearings for Trump’s Cabinet picks have turned into a spectacle. It seems like Democrats are more interested in putting on a show than actually governing.
Take the hearing for Defense nominee Pete Hegseth, for example. Hawaii’s Sen. Mazie Hirono made some wild comments, suggesting he might support military actions in places like Greenland. She even asked if he’d follow an order from Trump to shoot protesters. Seriously?
Then there’s Virginia’s Tim Kaine, who scolded Hegseth about allegations of misconduct toward women. It’s a bit rich coming from someone who once fawned over Bill Clinton in public.
And let’s not forget Liz Warren, who has her own history with honesty, grilling Hegseth about his integrity. It’s all pretty pathetic, really—lots of drama, but zero substance.
The same cheap theatrics were on display during the Judiciary Committee’s hearing for Attorney General-designate Pam Bondi. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse kicked things off by asking if she had an enemies list and when she’d prosecute journalists.
Connecticut’s Richard Blumenthal jumped in, questioning whether Bondi could say no to Trump if he asked her to do something unethical. It was a bizarre line of questioning, and Bondi handled it well, firing back at Schiff when he interrupted her.
Bondi’s job will be to restore an agency that’s been politicized under Attorney General Merrick Garland, who had his own enemies list. The Democrats are trying to paint her as a female Nixon, hoping to revive their party’s fortunes.
Like Hirono and Kaine, they’re just trying to create soundbites for fundraising as the 2026 elections loom. It’s all a bit like the noisy protests from the hearing for Energy Secretary-designate Chris Wright, where activists railed against fossil fuels.
Maybe this kind of grandstanding works for some folks who tune into Rachel Maddow or Stephen Colbert. But the 2024 election results suggest it won’t sway anyone else.
It’s sad to see the national Democratic leadership so out of touch with reality while their members are loud and focused on self-promotion rather than policy.
