Parents are feeling overwhelmed by constant daycare updates, questioning the need for such detailed information about their kids’ daily activities

City: Seattle: So, I was having coffee with a mom friend when she picked up her phone and sighed. “That’s my daughter’s second poo today, and it’s only 10 a.m.”
I was like, “Wait, how do you even know that?” She showed me this daycare app that tracks everything her kid does. Seriously, it’s more detailed than some medical charts!
She gets real-time updates on what her child eats, when they sleep, and even who they play with. Plus, she gets photos to analyze every little change. It’s wild!
I have two kids in daycare, and I’ve never seen anything like it. My daycare sends a weekly summary, but it’s not always timely. Sure, it’s nice to see what they’re learning, but I don’t need constant updates.
Honestly, I don’t even check them all. I just realized that not everyone feels this way. Call me a bad parent, but I don’t want to know every detail of my kids’ daycare day.
I trust the educators completely. I don’t care what they’re wearing or eating. I know they’re in good hands with smart and caring people. It’s a relief not to know everything.
Unless there’s an accident or illness, I think updates should wait until pickup. A simple whiteboard for sleep times is enough, and a chat with the staff can fill in the gaps.
Every time an educator is on their iPad for updates, they’re not fully focused on the kids. I appreciate the hard work of childcare workers; they’re amazing people.
The push for detailed updates comes from parents, and that’s where the issue starts. Teachers struggle with parent expectations, and it makes sense why kids have a hard time transitioning to school.
Honestly, unless my kids are sick, I don’t need to know how many times they poo when I’m not around. I’d prefer to keep it that way!
