A Dallas teen is on trial for the murder of his girlfriend, a Lancaster High drill team member, who was shot last January

Ikea was just 17 and a junior on the drill team at Lancaster High School. She had given birth to a baby girl only three weeks before her death.
Today, in court, her mother, Tequoya Lester, shared the heartbreaking moment she found her daughter. She described how she climbed through a window to get to Ikea’s room, only to find her unresponsive.
The police say Trevon Wright, who was 17 at the time, was the one who shot her. He was arrested by US Marshals shortly after the incident.
Ikea’s family revealed that the couple had been dating but had split up after a paternity test showed Wright wasn’t the father of Ikea’s baby.
On the day of the shooting, Lester said she heard a gunshot from Ikea’s room. When she got there, the door was locked, and she had to climb in through the window.
Wright is facing first-degree murder charges, but his attorney argued that no one actually saw him pull the trigger.
An expert mentioned that emotional testimonies from victims’ families can really sway jurors. For Ikea’s family, this trial is a painful reminder of their loss, and they’re having to relive that awful day all over again.
