D.C. is reintroducing a $1,500 voucher program to help residents buy e-bikes, promoting eco-friendly transportation options.

Washington: The D.C. Department of Transportation is bringing back its E-Bike Incentive Program. This program aims to help low-income residents get electric bikes with a voucher worth up to $1,500.
They’re also supporting local bike shops with a $500,000 donation. Applications will be open from February 1 to February 21. There are two types of applicants: Preferred and Standard.
Preferred Applicants are D.C. residents enrolled in programs like SNAP or Medicaid. Standard Applicants are those who aren’t in these programs. Everyone can apply for the voucher, which also includes a helmet and bike lock.
Once the application period ends on February 21, they’ll randomly select applicants for the vouchers. Last year, the program helped 293 residents buy e-bikes, giving them a better transportation option.
Sharon Kershbaum, the Director of the Department of Transportation, mentioned that more residents are choosing e-bikes over cars, which helps reduce traffic and improve air quality.
