New York: So, the faculty and staff at the City University of New York just ratified a new union contract. It’s pretty exciting because it includes raises for everyone and a nice $3,000 bonus. Chancellor Félix Matos Rodríguez shared the news on Tuesday.

About 90% of the Professional Staff Congress members who voted were all in favor of this agreement with CUNY. It also covers nearly two years of back pay and will last until 2027. Over three weeks, around 66% of eligible faculty and staff took part in the vote.

Matos Rodríguez highlighted how dedicated the faculty and staff are to CUNY’s mission of providing great public higher education. He believes this contract shows the university’s commitment to these hardworking folks, which will ultimately benefit the students.

The union mentioned that salaries will go up by at least 13.4%. Plus, adjunct faculty, graduate student workers, and the lowest-paid full-time staff will see some extra raises to help with equity.

James Davis, the PSC president and an English professor at Brooklyn College, said the gains in this contract are thanks to the solidarity and action of the members. He pointed out that a 90% vote for ratification shows that most members believe this contract will improve CUNY for everyone.
