Greater Manchester: Last week was quite a week for crime in the area. A cowardly thief, a baseball bat-wielding thug, and even a killer were all locked up.

Take Mark Schofield, for instance. He attacked a 67-year-old woman with a walking stick and stole her handbag. Poor lady ended up seriously hurt. Schofield got five years in prison, and the judge told him his late mother would have been ashamed of him.

Then there’s Anthony Corkovic, who, along with a couple of others, broke into a couple’s home while they were watching a Manchester City game. They were hit with baseball bats, and the gang made off with some expensive stuff. Corkovic was caught after leaving blood at the scene and got an extended sentence of eight years.

John Firth and Aileen Cullinane were another pair of thieves. They stole from a friend who offered them a place to stay. Firth has a long list of offenses, and the judge warned him he might end up dead or in prison for life if he keeps it up. He got 22 months, while Cullinane got a suspended sentence.

And let’s not forget about Michael Edge, a repeat offender who tried to meet a girl for sex. He was caught by paedophile hunters and is now facing two and a half years behind bars.

Ross Kenny, a dad who lost his job during the pandemic, turned to dealing cocaine. He was caught with a stash worth around £3,000 and got two and a half years in prison.

Lastly, there’s Kevell Blake, who was involved in a tragic incident where a young man was killed. Blake was sentenced to eight years for his role in the manslaughter, which is a tough lesson learned.

So, it’s been a rough week for these criminals, and it shows that the justice system is still hard at work in Greater Manchester.
