Deion Sanders is reportedly in talks with the Cowboys after they parted ways with Mike McCarthy
Denver: The Dallas Cowboys are on the hunt for a new head coach after parting ways with Mike McCarthy. One name that’s popped up is Deion Sanders, who’s made quite a name for himself at Colorado.
According to Jordan Schultz from Fox Sports, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has had a chat with Sanders about the position. It seems like the talks might keep going, as Sanders is seen as a top candidate. But the Cowboys are also looking at other options.
Sanders confirmed he spoke with Jones, saying it was a delightful conversation. However, he also expressed his love for Boulder and the CU community. He’s had a solid run at CU, turning the team around from a rough 1-11 season to a 9-4 record this year.
His history with the Cowboys adds to the intrigue. Sanders was a star cornerback for Dallas in the ’90s and played a key role in their last Super Bowl win. Plus, he’s got ties to the Dallas area, where he’s lived for years.
While he’s often said he doesn’t want to coach in the NFL, he hinted that he might consider it if it meant coaching his sons. But that could be tricky since his son Shedeur is projected to be a top draft pick, and the Cowboys would need to make some big moves to get him.
On top of that, the Cowboys have Dak Prescott, who just signed a massive contract. Trading him would be a tough call, especially with the salary cap hit they’d take. Sanders also has a hefty buyout if he leaves CU, so it’s a complicated situation.
It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out. Stay tuned for more updates!
