A coroner has condemned the parents of a teen who drank excessively at a family Christmas lunch, leading to his tragic death

Victoria: A heartbreaking incident unfolded during a family Christmas gathering. A 16-year-old boy tragically drank too much alcohol and lost his life.
He was at his aunt’s house with his parents and other relatives on December 25, 2022. The coroner, Catherine Fitzgerald, revealed that he consumed a dangerous amount of alcohol.
The boy brought his own drinks, including ten vodka cruisers, and also drank from a well-stocked bar. He was seen taking shots and using methods to drink quickly, which only sped up his intoxication.
Despite his alarming state, no adults stepped in to help. His mother even told him to “pace himself” instead of stopping him from drinking more.
By the evening, he was vomiting and unable to walk. He was eventually helped to a couch, where he fell asleep. Sadly, he was found unresponsive the next morning.
Paramedics rushed him to the hospital, but he was pronounced brain dead and died two days later from acute alcohol poisoning.
The coroner’s report emphasized the serious risks of allowing minors to drink and the responsibility of adults to supervise and intervene.
