A Cook County judge is under investigation for sharing a racist meme and will undergo bias training following a disciplinary order.

Chicago: So, there’s this Cook County judge, Caroline Glennon-Goodman, who got herself into some hot water. She’s been reassigned and has to go through bias training because she shared a racist meme.
The whole thing blew up after Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans caught wind of it. The Circuit Court’s Executive Committee met and decided to take action. They found out she shared a meme that showed a young Black boy and a leg with an electronic monitor, with a pretty insensitive caption.
Glennon-Goodman claimed it was just a joke from her husband, but the committee wasn’t having it. They said her actions might break the Code of Judicial Conduct, so they’re looking into it further.
A group of Black lawyers spoke out against her, saying that even if she apologized, sharing that kind of stuff is just not okay. They pointed out how harmful such images can be, especially given the history behind them.
Now, the Judicial Inquiry Board will decide if she needs more punishment. She’s also got to take some extra training on implicit bias. A spokesperson for Evans didn’t comment, and Glennon-Goodman hasn’t been reachable for a chat.
She just became a judge last year and was supposed to serve until 2030. Before that, she worked for over 20 years in the public defender’s office, handling serious cases. It’s a real shame to see her in this situation.
