Construction has started on a new mixed-use building in Bedford Park, featuring affordable housing and retail space.

The new building will have 277 affordable housing units, plus some retail space on the ground floor. It’s being developed by Douglaston Development and the Jericho Project. The housing will include a mix of studios and one to three-bedroom apartments for families earning up to 70% of the area’s median income. There will also be 60 units set aside for supportive housing.
Residents can look forward to some nice amenities like laundry facilities, a fitness center, and even on-site parking. Plus, there’s a green roof! The retail space will combine with an earlier phase to create a larger area for a neighborhood grocery store, Cherry Valley Marketplace.
Demolition of the old site wrapped up last month, and they expect to finish construction by 2027. The first phase, which included a senior housing building, was completed in fall 2023. Exciting times ahead for the community!
