Colorado Representative Jenny Willford is suing Lyft after an alleged sexual assault by a man posing as a driver during a ride.

Adams County: So, here’s the scoop. Colorado Rep. Jenny Willford is taking Lyft to court. She claims she was sexually assaulted during a ride back in February 2024.
Willford says the driver, who was supposed to be certified, made some really inappropriate advances. It got so bad that she had to jump out of the car early just to get away.
According to her lawsuit, the driver wasn’t even the person Lyft had on file. Instead, an unvetted guy showed up, which is a huge no-no. The driver was using someone else’s account, which is against Lyft’s rules.
The account was registered under a company that’s only allowed to transport property, not people. The owner of that company, Kholmurod Halimov, admitted he let a friend use the account. He thought the driver was just a buddy’s brother.
Halilmov claimed he didn’t know anything about the incident until he was contacted by the news. He also mentioned that Lyft’s rules about account sharing aren’t clear-cut.
This lawsuit is raising some serious questions about Lyft’s safety practices. Just last July, they settled another case involving sexual assaults by drivers. It’s a big deal, especially since a report from 2021 showed over 4,100 sexual assault reports from 2017 to 2019.
It’s a tough situation, and if anyone’s been through something similar, there are resources available for help.
