The Colorado Rapids have re-signed Michael Edwards for the 2025 season, giving him another chance to shine on the field.

This comes after the team declined his previous contract option last November. With more center backs joining the team, it looks like Edwards will get more playing time this year.
He’s been with the Rapids for nearly three and a half seasons but only made his debut last year. In 2024, he played 207 minutes, starting with a nine-minute appearance against San Jose in May.
His first real start was in July, where he played 86 minutes in a 4-1 win over St. Louis CITY. Fans loved his fierce slide tackles and energy. He even scored a goal with a back-heel during another match, which made him a favorite among supporters.
Edwards has also been a great teammate, especially for young forward Darren Yapi, who had a tough time waiting for his first goal. They shared a special moment when both had big games together.
The Rapids have brought in new center backs, spending over $1 million on Chidozie Awaziem and Ian Murphy from FC Cincinnati. They also said goodbye to Lalas Abubakar, a fan favorite who moved to FC Dallas.
Now, the team has six center backs to choose from for the upcoming season. They reported for preseason training recently and will soon head to Mexico for some friendly matches.
The season kicks off with a CONCACAF Champions Cup match against LAFC on February 18 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
