Calgary: The weather is about to change big time. After enjoying some warmer days, it looks like a cold snap is on the way.

Meteorologist Kevin Stanfield from 660 NewsRadio says we can expect temperatures to start dropping Thursday afternoon. Wind warnings are already in effect for areas outside the city.

He mentioned that while it was almost 10°C earlier in the day, we’ll see a steady decline, and there’s a chance of flurries and strong winds. The winds will be coming from the north, bringing in high pressure instead of low pressure.

After this warm stretch, an arctic air mass is moving in, and by Sunday morning, temperatures could plummet to around -30°C, with wind chills feeling like -40°C in many areas.

Environment Canada forecasts a high of -6°C for Friday, but it gets colder over the weekend, with highs of -15°C on Saturday and -17°C on Sunday. Overnight lows could even hit -25°C.

Wind warnings are in place for areas east and south of Calgary, extending to Medicine Hat and Lethbridge. The winds should calm down by Friday morning, but there’s also a chance of snow that could reduce visibility.

The good news? This cold snap won’t last long, and we should see temperatures bounce back above 0°C by next week.
