Washington: CNN’s Scott Jennings was pretty excited about how Pete Hegseth handled himself during his confirmation hearing. He said Hegseth really took it to the Democrats, who were throwing all sorts of accusations at him.
Jennings said, “Hegseth kicked their asses today. It wasn’t even close.” He thought Hegseth was calm and collected, not making any mistakes, which is impressive given the pressure.
Hegseth, a veteran, faced over four hours of questioning about his past, including some pretty serious allegations. But Jennings felt he was ready for it all.
He didn’t hold back on criticizing some senators, especially Tim Kaine, saying his questions were out of line. Kaine brought up Hegseth’s past infidelities, which Hegseth admitted to but said he’s not perfect.
Jennings also pointed out that some senators went off on wild tangents, making Hegseth look even better in comparison. He thought the Democrats’ approach was unprofessional and that it might actually help Hegseth’s chances.
There were protests too, with groups like Code Pink trying to disrupt the hearing. Jennings noted that this kind of behavior might explain why the Democrats were acting so strangely.
Even a fellow CNN analyst, Karen Finney, said the hearing felt more like a performance than a serious discussion. She agreed that Hegseth was well-prepared but wasn’t a fan of how the Democrats questioned him.
