Cheshire East: The council is expecting to save over £3 million on school transport by the end of the financial year. They brought in Edge Consultants for £733,000 to help cut costs.

A recent meeting revealed that Cheshire East was spending £3,000 more per pupil than similar councils. Since then, they’ve been working with Edge to bring those costs down.

Claire Williamson, the education director, mentioned that travel support will always be needed, but costs can fluctuate due to local services and fuel prices.

She noted that the review shows positive changes in transport costs. Committee chair Carol Bulman expressed relief, saying the recommendations from Edge seem to be working well.

Gill Betton highlighted the teamwork between the consultants and council staff. Cllr Brian Puddicombe acknowledged his concerns about consultant costs but praised Edge for their effective work and collaboration with the council.
