The beloved Scottish Highland Games return to Winter Springs with fun activities for all ages and a taste of Scottish culture
The festival is packed with activities, from traditional Highland athletics to live music and dance performances. You can catch pipers, dancers, and even some adorable border collies showing off their skills. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re into axe throwing or just want to enjoy some delicious haggis.
Ennis Pruitt, who helps organize the event, mentioned that there’s no single highlight. Instead, it’s all about the variety. People come for different reasons, and that’s what makes it special.
Both days are filled with events, starting with welcoming ceremonies featuring pipe and drum bands. You can stroll around, enjoy live Celtic rock music, and learn about Scottish heritage. Kids can join in on the fun too, with their own games designed just for them.
One of the standout events is the Boulder Boogie, where competitors carry heavy stones. It’s a sight to see! And let’s not forget the food—there’s everything from turkey legs to traditional Scottish fare.
Pruitt shared that a lot of hard work goes into making this festival enjoyable. Volunteers put in countless hours to ensure it’s a great experience for everyone.
While the weather might be a bit stormy on Sunday, Pruitt thinks it could actually enhance the festival vibe. After all, it rains a lot in Scotland!
If you’re planning to go, the games run from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 8:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are available online or at the gate, and there are discounts for military and students. Just remember, no pets allowed—only service dogs.
