Carlos Tejada faces manslaughter charges after a stray bullet killed grandmother Carmen Ochoa during New Year’s celebrations in Kissimmee
Carmen Rosa Neira Ochoa, 56, was enjoying fireworks with her daughters when she suddenly felt a sharp pain. Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Tejada, who has no prior criminal record, shot the bullet from his backyard across a lake. Investigators linked the bullet that struck Ochoa to a gun found in his home.
Kissimmee Police Chief Robert Anzueto emphasized the dangers of celebratory gunfire. He stated that Tejada’s actions, while not intended to harm anyone, led to a tragic loss of life.
Ochoa was remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, dedicated to her family. Her son-in-law described her as caring and always willing to help others. This incident serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the risks associated with firing guns into the air.
