Canmore is buzzing with excitement as it hosts Hockey Day in Canada, featuring games and festivities for all ages this weekend

Canmore: This weekend, the charming town of Canmore is all set to host Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada. The excitement is already in the air, and the official kickoff is at 11 a.m. with Ron MacLean leading the broadcast.
Ron shared a fun tidbit about the location. When they scouted the engine bridge for filming, they found it packed with 300 film crews shooting a movie starring Melissa McCarthy. Talk about a busy spot!
Andrew Milne, co-chair of the event and coach of the Canmore Eagles, is thrilled. He mentioned how this event is a fantastic way to celebrate hockey and the community’s spirit. The Eagles are a big deal in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, and Milne has been coaching them since 2007.
At the Canmore Recreation Centre, there’s a special game lined up featuring Calgary Flames alumni and local celebrities. Plus, the Stanley Cup has been making its rounds, adding to the excitement.
Milne emphasized how the whole community has come together for this event, showcasing not just the stunning views of Canmore but also its wonderful people.
On Saturday, cities like Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa will also be hitting the ice. The Senators will face the Boston Bruins, while the Canadiens take on the Maple Leafs and the Jets play the Flames.
Before the NHL games, there’s a U Sports women’s game featuring MacEwan University against Mount Royal University, with puck drop at 3:30 p.m. at the Canmore Recreation Centre.
Fans can also catch an Alberta Elite Hockey League U-18 AAA boys’ game and the AJHL matchup between the Drumheller Dragons and the Canmore Eagles later in the evening.
This marks the third time Alberta has hosted Hockey Day in Canada, with previous events in Red Deer and Lloydminster. It’s shaping up to be a memorable weekend!
