Canadian TikTokers are worried about losing followers as a U.S. ban looms

Calgary: With the U.S. TikTok ban on the horizon, Canadian creators are feeling the heat. They can still use the app, but many worry about losing a big chunk of their audience.
Seraphina Ellen, a singer and Taylor Swift tribute artist, is one of them. She’s concerned about losing 83% of her followers. That’s a huge hit for someone with nearly 100,000 fans.
Unlike in the U.S., Canadian TikTokers don’t earn money per view. Seraphina has made up to $80 per livestream, but that support might dwindle if her American fans can’t access her content.
She’s been using TikTok to livestream her singing, and her fans have been generous. They’ve helped fund her singing lessons and even supported her charity work.
Seraphina has raised money for cancer research and local groups, and she’s worried about losing that backing. Her shows in places like Edmonton and Vancouver have seen a lot of American support, too.
Now, she’s looking to other platforms like Instagram and YouTube to keep in touch with her fans. She hopes to maintain that connection despite the changes.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Supreme Court is considering a free speech challenge related to the ban. TikTok’s lawyers have warned that the app could go dark soon if the law isn’t challenged.
