A fire at Razook’s Furniture prompted a response from firefighters, causing traffic disruptions in Wichita’s East Douglas area.

When the first crew arrived, they saw smoke billowing from the building. They quickly upgraded the situation to a full-blown fire response to bring in more help. Traffic was rerouted off East Douglas while they worked to control the flames.
Battalion Chief Matt Bowen mentioned that the fire was located in a utility area of the store. The team jumped into action, checking for any hidden spots where the fire might spread. Older buildings like Razook’s can be tricky since they’ve been remodeled over the years, creating spaces that can hide flames.
It took about half an hour for the firefighters to ensure everything was safe. Thankfully, everyone inside had already evacuated. The cause of the fire is still being looked into.
Razook’s has been a staple in the community for over 70 years. Earlier that day, they shared a heartfelt message on Facebook thanking their customers. They reported only minor smoke damage and were relieved that the fire was caught early. The store will be closed on Wednesday for cleanup, but they expressed gratitude for the support from locals.
