Brooke Shields opens up about body image struggles and a hurtful comment from Andre Agassi in her new memoir

New York City: Brooke Shields is being candid about her body image battles. In her memoir, “Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old,” she shares a painful moment with her ex-husband, Andre Agassi.
She recalls feeling a bit shaken after he gave her a backhanded compliment about her weight. Shields writes that she was told she wasn’t “runway worthy” because she wasn’t skinny enough. That really hit her hard.
Shields reflects on how being labeled “the face” made her feel like that was all she was. She felt disconnected from her body, like it was in a different world. During their marriage, she opened up about her insecurities, but Agassi didn’t give her the reassurance she needed.
When she asked him if he would still love her if she gained weight, his response was shocking. He said, “I love you too much to let you get big and fat!” That left her reeling, and she admits she didn’t see that coming at all.
The couple tied the knot in 1997 but split in 1999. Shields, who has two daughters with her current husband, is relieved they didn’t have kids together. She recalls Agassi saying, “Be thankful we didn’t have children, because I would not have made this easy for you.”
That comment stuck with her, and she feels it would have been a disaster if they had kids. Shields also touches on her past feud with Tom Cruise over her postpartum depression treatment in her book, which is now available.
