Washington: So, Pam Bondi was on Fox News last summer, all fired up about going after Trump’s enemies if Republicans got back in power. She was really looking forward to 2025 and cleaning house, saying the “deep state” would finally be in the spotlight.

Fast forward to now, and things have changed a bit. During a recent Senate hearing, when asked if she’d go after people like former special counsel Jack Smith or Attorney General Merrick Garland, she totally dodged the question. Instead of saying she wouldn’t pursue politically motivated prosecutions, she just said she wouldn’t answer hypotheticals.

It was a bit surprising, especially since she was so eager to talk about it before. Another senator asked if she’d investigate Jack Smith, and she replied she hadn’t seen the file. It’s clear she’s not as keen on the idea anymore.

This all ties into the bigger picture, too. President Biden is considering preemptive pardons for folks who might face backlash from a Republican administration. He mentioned he’s thinking about protections for “certain people” before he leaves office.

Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson, who led the Jan. 6 committee, is definitely paying attention. He said he’d accept a pardon if offered, believing Trump when he says he’ll go after people like him and Liz Cheney. Bondi’s comments probably didn’t ease any worries for Thompson or others who might be in Trump’s crosshairs.

It’s a wild time in politics, and it seems like everyone is on edge about what’s coming next.
