A Bloomer man faces trial for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage boy over several years

The charges came down in August, and they’re pretty heavy—repeated sexual assault of a minor. Detlaff, who’s 44, had his preliminary hearing recently. The judge found enough evidence to move forward, setting a trial date for March 19.
The allegations are really disturbing. A 15-year-old boy told investigators that Detlaff assaulted him multiple times over four years, both in a camper and a house. The boy said he was scared of Detlaff because he was much bigger than him.
When police talked to Detlaff, he admitted to sending the boy explicit pictures and messages but denied any physical contact. He’s also facing other charges in Eau Claire County for sexual exploitation and using a computer for a child sex crime.
Detlaff was released on a $25,000 bond but has strict conditions. He can’t contact anyone under 18 and can only use the internet to talk to his lawyer. The boy’s mom found some pretty alarming messages on his phone, which led to the police getting involved. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved.
