As the Big East season progresses, Marquette, UConn, and St. John’s stand out as top contenders for the NCAA Tournament.
Right now, there’s just one game separating these three teams. Marquette is still undefeated after their win against DePaul, while St. John’s edged out Georgetown. UConn has only one loss, too, which came from a close game against Creighton.
These teams are leading the league in all the important rankings, so they’re definitely the ones to watch. They haven’t faced each other yet, but those matchups will be crucial for deciding who takes the regular-season title.
The first big game is on February 1, when Marquette hosts UConn. Then, Marquette will visit St. John’s a few days later. It’s going to be an exciting few days for the top teams in the conference.
Villanova has also made a comeback after a rough start. They’ve won eight of their last ten games, and even though they had some early losses, they’re looking like a potential NCAA Tournament team. Eric Dixon is leading the scoring, and they need a few more key wins to secure their spot.
Seton Hall might not have the best record, but they’re improving. Isaiah Coleman is stepping up, and they could surprise some teams down the line.
Last year, the Big East only got three teams into the NCAA Tournament, and it could happen again. Creighton and Villanova are on the bubble, but they have solid NET rankings. If they can keep winning, they might just make it. Plus, with other conferences not sending as many teams this year, the Big East could benefit from that.
