In his farewell address, Biden cautioned against the rise of a tech oligarchy and the risks of AI

He pointed out that while there have been achievements during his presidency, like climate legislation and gun safety laws, there are serious concerns about the concentration of power among the ultra-wealthy. Biden stressed that this could threaten democracy and basic rights.
He warned that misinformation is rampant, with the free press struggling and social media failing to fact-check effectively. Biden also discussed the dual nature of artificial intelligence, highlighting both its potential benefits and risks. He insisted that America must lead in AI development, not China.
Biden’s comments on AI came right after he signed an executive order to boost AI infrastructure in the U.S. He also mentioned new chip rules to support AI growth in allied countries to counter China.
At the start of his address, he touched on a cease-fire agreement in Gaza, which his team negotiated and will be implemented by President-elect Donald Trump’s administration. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between administrations.
Biden’s presidency is wrapping up after he stepped back from the presidential race last year, amid concerns about his age and mental fitness. Trump is set to take office again on January 20.
