A Prestwich bar and cafe faces major improvements after a one-star hygiene rating due to serious food safety issues

Located in a repurposed warehouse, The Goods In opened in 2020 and offers a mix of hot and cold food. But during a recent inspection, they found out-of-date food in the fridge and high-risk meats stored at the wrong temperatures.
For example, cooked sausages were at 11°C and cooked bacon at 12°C, while they should be kept below 8°C to avoid food poisoning. The inspectors also spotted expired yogurt and cream in the fridge.
The place was noted as “dirty” in several areas, including the wash hand basin and fridge seals. Some spots were hard to clean, and the business was told to make repairs.
They even found unwashed veggies stored improperly and sanitizer that was diluted wrong, which could make it ineffective. Plus, they hadn’t been keeping up with temperature checks for the fridge and freezer since early November.
The report suggested that the directors and key food handlers should get formal food hygiene training. Overall, the rating was one star, indicating major improvements are needed.
In response, a spokesperson for The Goods In said they’ve always had a five-star rating until now. They mentioned that the food handling part was fine, but there were issues with building maintenance and paperwork.
They’re in touch with inspectors, who are set to visit again soon, and they claim to have addressed the issues raised. As for the expired food, they explained that the restaurant was closed over the weekend, so the food was about to be thrown out.
They assured everyone that they’re committed to maintaining good standards.
