A father is facing serious charges after his infant son died from injuries he admitted to causing

The father, Nicholas Tyler Perkins, 24, has been charged with child abuse and aggravated assault. These charges were filed before the baby died, and the sheriff’s office is looking into possible additional charges.
On January 5, deputies responded to a call about a 3-month-old who wasn’t breathing. They found the baby unresponsive at home and rushed him to Phoenix Children’s Hospital. The parents claimed the child had been constipated and was born prematurely.
A social worker at the hospital reported that the baby had “non-accidental” injuries, including bruises and fractures. A doctor later confirmed the baby had severe head injuries, including internal decapitation.
The mother told detectives she was visiting Perkins when the baby was handed to the grandfather. Later, Perkins took the baby upstairs, and the mother heard him crying. When Perkins came down, he claimed he had slipped and hurt the baby.
However, when questioned about the baby’s injuries, Perkins changed his story. He admitted to shaking the baby out of frustration after losing control. He was arrested and is currently held on a $350,000 bond, with his next court date set for January 22.
