Atlanta: Mayor Andre Dickens and the Atlanta Police Department met at the Thomasville Recreation Center to celebrate the city’s crime reduction achievements.

Dickens emphasized the importance of recognizing the hard work of those dedicated to keeping Atlanta safe. He was joined by APD Chief Darin Schierbaum, District Attorney Fani Willis, and other community leaders.

According to the latest crime data, overall crime in Atlanta dropped by 5%. Notably, violent crimes like homicide and assault decreased by 8%, while property crimes saw a 5% reduction.

Willis pointed out that this means 44 fewer families had to endure the pain of losing a loved one to violence. The city’s One Safe City plan aims to tackle issues like gangs and illegal firearms through community collaboration and various programs.

Youth arrests fell by 23% in 2024, thanks to initiatives that focus on life skills and job readiness. Zone 3 was recognized for achieving the largest crime reduction, with a 22% drop attributed to community involvement and technology.

Dickens concluded by stressing that One Safe City is not just about responding to emergencies but also about creating a secure environment for all residents.
