Arne Slot discusses his unexpected choice of Ibrahima Konate against Man Utd and future plans for Tottenham
Liverpool: So, Arne Slot had a lot to say about his surprising pick of Ibrahima Konate for the match against Manchester United. It was a bit of a shocker since he hadn’t played in the last eight games. Jarell Quansah seemed like the obvious choice, but Slot went with Konate instead.
Konate had just returned to training on Friday, and then he played the full 90 minutes on Sunday. Some folks thought Slot might not rate Quansah, but he cleared that up. He said he picked Konate simply because he was fit to play.
Slot explained that if Konate hadn’t been ready, he wouldn’t have started him. He mentioned that once a player is back in training, they’re good to go. He also hinted that Quansah might get a chance to start against Tottenham in the upcoming Carabao Cup match.
It’s been a tough season for Quansah, who’s only started a couple of Premier League games. Slot seems to prefer either Konate or Joe Gomez alongside Virgil van Dijk, which makes it hard for the young lad to get more minutes.
