Apple’s board is pushing back against a proposal to end its DEI programs, calling it unnecessary and harmful to the company’s operations.

This comes as many big companies are pulling back on their DEI efforts after a Supreme Court ruling against affirmative action. There’s also a lot of public pressure from activists.
A recent filing showed that a free-market think tank suggested Apple should ditch its DEI programs, claiming they could lead to discrimination lawsuits. But Apple is saying, “No way.” They believe their existing compliance program is solid and that the proposal would limit how they run their business.
DEI programs often focus on hiring and training based on race, gender, or sexuality. While some folks criticize these initiatives as divisive, supporters argue they help bridge racial gaps and support marginalized groups.
Despite the backlash, Apple isn’t alone in backing its DEI efforts. Many major companies still have these programs, and even Costco recently defended its DEI policies against similar proposals.
