San Francisco: So, Apple had a rough time in 2024. Their global smartphone market share took a hit, dropping to 18%. That’s down a percentage point from the previous year. Meanwhile, the overall market grew by 4%, but Apple’s sales fell by 2%.

They launched some cool stuff like the Vision Pro and their AI, Apple Intelligence, but it didn’t help the iPhone sales much. The iPhone 16 was supposed to be a big deal, especially since it was built for AI. Analysts thought it would drive upgrades, but that hasn’t really happened yet.

A big issue is that Apple Intelligence isn’t available in Greater China, which is a huge market. They’re trying to team up with a local company to change that. In the meantime, Xiaomi is stealing the show, growing their sales faster than anyone else.

Samsung is still leading the pack with a 19% market share, thanks to their AI-enabled S24 series. Apple was a bit late to the AI game, launching their features after competitors like Meta and Microsoft.

The AI tools they’ve released so far have had mixed reviews, and they’re only available on newer iPhone models. Apple says more AI features are coming in April, but they’ve got some challenges to tackle in 2025 too.
