Amber Weather Warning Issued in Cumbria as 90mph Winds Approach

Cumbria: So, there’s a big storm coming! An amber warning for wind and a yellow one for snow have been issued as Storm Eowyn rolls in.

The Met Office and RAC are saying we might see travel disruptions, building damage, and even power cuts starting Friday, January 24.

We’re looking at gusts hitting up to 90 miles per hour and maybe five centimeters of snow across the area. It’s going to be wild!

The NHS is advising folks to stock up on essential meds, get their flu and COVID-19 shots, and be careful to avoid falls.

Even though it’s been chilly, temperatures are expected to rise a bit soon. But don’t let your guard down; the Met Office warns we’re in for the strongest winds of the year.

Mike Silverstone, the Deputy Chief Meteorologist, mentioned that Storm Eowyn will bring some seriously unsettled weather through Friday and Saturday.

He added that the strongest gusts will likely hit Northern Ireland, northern England, northwestern Wales, and western Scotland, with some areas possibly seeing gusts over 80 mph.

Heavy rain is also on the way, making for a pretty unpleasant end to the week.

This is the fifth named storm we’ve had recently, and it comes just a month after Storm Darragh knocked out power for over 100 homes in Cumbria.

The Met Office is urging everyone to take precautions to protect their property and stay safe.

They suggest checking for loose items outside your home, preparing for possible power cuts, and making sure you’re ready before heading out on the road or using public transport.

As Storm Eowyn starts to ease up, Saturday will still be breezy, with strong winds hanging around in Cumbria.

But heads up! Another low-pressure system might bring more wet and windy weather on Sunday and into next week.
