Andy Jassy has appointed Alex Dunlap as his new shadow advisor at Amazon, a key role in the company.

Dunlap has been with Amazon Web Services for 17 years and was the VP of productivity apps before stepping into this role. He started as Jassy’s shadow advisor late last year, taking over from Eric Rimling.
This position usually lasts about 18 to 24 months, and it’s a stepping stone to higher roles within the company. Jassy himself was a shadow advisor to Jeff Bezos, and others have moved on to significant positions too.
Amazon is really focusing on business applications now, especially in the software-as-a-service area. They’ve had some hits and misses with their business apps over the years. Some tools like Bedrock and Connect are doing well, but others, like WorkDocs, didn’t catch on.
An Amazon spokesperson didn’t have any comments on this change. If you’ve got any insider info, you can reach out to the reporter, Eugene Kim, through Signal or Telegram.
