An Army veteran saved his home from LA wildfires using lessons learned from past experiences with blazes
After a close call with a brush fire a few years back, Jim got ready for future fires. He stocked up on yard sprinklers and hoses, just in case. When the Palisades fire broke out, he quickly set everything up. He put sprinklers in the yard and even propped hoses on the roof.
When the evacuation order came, he and his family left, hoping for the best. The Palisades fire has been devastating, destroying thousands of homes. Jim described the escape as tough, comparing it to his experiences in Afghanistan.
His home is on a hill, and when he returned, he saw the flames had come close. Luckily, the sprinklers did their job and kept the fire away. Sadly, many of his neighbors weren’t as fortunate.
Jim felt emotional as he shared that most of the homes above his were gone. The fire is still a major threat, only about 11% contained. After the water was turned off, he and a Marine friend took action again. They pulled water from a pool to keep his roof and nearby homes wet.
He felt it was necessary to help out. The damage from the Palisades fire is extensive, with over 20,000 acres burned and many homes lost. The area looks completely different now, and strong winds are making things worse. Jim noted that first responders are doing their best, but it feels like a warzone out there.
