Sheboygan: Big things are happening at the Above & Beyond Children’s Museum. They’re rolling out new events and exhibits this year. The museum is updating its mission and branding to kick off 2025.

They’ve teamed up with Brenda Bintzler from the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation to give their logo a fun makeover. The new look features colorful, loopy text that represents their core values: play, learning, empowerment, inspiration, healing, and fun. Cate Tinker, the executive director, says this rebranding captures the spirit of playful curiosity.

This year, they’re launching a music exhibit in February and a play veterinary clinic in the fall. The clinic will let kids dress up as vets and care for stuffed animals. They might even partner with the Humane Society for some cool programming. Each floor of the museum has its own theme, focusing on STEAM, arts, and community kindness.

Recently, they added two new STEAM exhibits, the Sunshine Pin Screen and Pegboard Play, thanks to a local high school student. These hands-on activities are all about creativity and exploration. Tinker mentioned that they work with over 100 community partners to bring these exhibits to life.

They’re also chatting with the Latinx community about the next phase of their Culture Exchange Exhibit, which will highlight the Mexican immigrant experience through food and music. This exhibit has already showcased the Hmong community since spring 2023.

The museum is also planning family-friendly events, like a Sweetheart Social in February, following the success of their Noon Year’s Eve celebration. They expected 100 visitors but ended up with 350! Tinker believes there’s a real need for safe, fun indoor spaces during the cold Wisconsin winters.

They’re hosting a Taproom Takeover fundraiser at 3 Sheeps Brewing Company on January 19, featuring food trucks and activities. The Sweetheart Social on February 1 will include art projects and story times for kids, where they can make Valentine’s cards to share with local nonprofits.

In other news, there have been some leadership changes on the Board of Directors. Farah Soetaert is the new education coordinator, and Tim Saeger and Carrie Green have stepped down as president and vice president. Brian O’Laughlin and Kathryn Dinolfo are stepping into those roles.
