Miami’s coach Mario Cristobal strongly defends quarterback Cam Ward amid criticism for opting out of the second half of the Pop-Tarts Bowl.
Cristobal didn’t hold back, saying he’s not going to waste time trying to shut down all the “bulls–t” narratives people are spreading. He praised Cam as an exceptional player and a great teammate, saying he’s done a lot for the University of Miami.
He believes Cam is leaving a legacy that will last for generations. Cristobal thinks Cam is the best he’s ever seen and can’t wait to see him lead an NFL team to championships.
In that bowl game against Iowa State, Cam played the first half, throwing three touchdowns and breaking the Division-I record for passing touchdowns. But he didn’t come back for the second half, and Miami lost a close one, 42-41.
Cam had an impressive season, throwing for over 4,300 yards and 39 touchdowns. Miami was looking good for a shot at the ACC championship until they got upset by Syracuse in their last regular-season game.
Cristobal made it clear that Cam was a big part of their success, helping them win 10 games. He set a high standard for the team moving forward.
Looking ahead, Cam and Shedeur Sanders are expected to be the top two quarterbacks in the upcoming draft. Miami has already found Cam’s replacement in Carson Beck, who just transferred from Georgia and is set to get a hefty NIL deal next season.
